HistoryWith over 35 years of experience in the technical development and implementation of advanced automation systems, combined with a background with composite materials, Eric Lundberg and Michael Draszt recognized a problem in the wind turbine industry. Experienced with laser-based measurement of large composites (e.g. aircraft, ), they were engaged to measure the aerodynamic shape of a set of wind turbine blades. They discovered that blades often deviated from their intended aerodynamic shape. Additionally, they saw that a modern control process had yet to be applied to wind blade manufacturing. Manufacturers (as well as OEM’s & turbine owners) were unaware of the blade deviations, let alone taking corrective measures minimize nonconformity and variance. Within the next year, Lundberg and Draszt launched Vesper, dedicating their efforts to these issues, along with the development of mold tooling, process control, and inspection methodologies to ensure superior fabrication of wind blades. |
